After the prior dominion over Israel by Egypt and Assyria, Babylon first conquered Israel and assimilated all of the nations around her on its rise to power. – History verifies that these four and different powerful nations individually rose up in the Western and Eastern European locality of the Old World. When we overlay Daniel, chapters 2, 7, and 8 these four powers are revealed as Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, and Rome, describing them as “kingdoms” and using the word “nation”. The fourth, “it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it and it had ten horns.” We also learn that these “four great beasts came up from the sea”. “The first was like a lion”, “a second, like to a bear”, and the third, “like a leopard”. For instance, In Daniel 7, “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon” four Governing Powers are introduced as various beasts (or animals). – We will in the following sections unequivocally verify by the scripture alone what we here in this brief outline hold up as sound interpretation.
